Hello,

I wanted to send my support for nomination of Jordi Palet Martinez for the ASO seat at the ICANN Board.

I've gotten to know Jordi in 2005 and been working with him on variety of IPv6 issues, focusing mostly on working with regional ISPs in South America to better find out where they stand in delivering IPv6 to their customers, and what assistance they needed. Through Jordi's efforts, a lot of ISPs and organizations, especially in developing regions, have been able to deploy IPv6, either through commercial service provider who offered them a solution, or through a tunnel-broker or otherwise. Through this joint-effort with Jordi, we've experienced and learned a lot from customer's perspective when deploying IPv6, and current issues they face with their existing IPv4 numbering resources.

I think it's important and would serve the greater community to have someone who, 1) participates in ICANN, IETF, RIR and other community stewardship based forums to understand the issues at hand concerning the future of Internet addressing resources; and 2) have first-hand experience in working with a lot of ISP's and end-user organizations to understand and hear their perspective in these issues. It is important in my opinion, to understand the will and thoughts of the actual community and network operators to create a good balance of knowledge, experience and impartialness for benefit of the public.

Having known Jordi for about 2 years now, I can say, without hesitation, that he tirelessly demonstrated endless volunteer effort in supporting developing regions and in general anyone requiring some help in deployment of IPv6, but not only in IPv6, also in general Internet topics relating to IP numbering resources and addressing procedures. He has shown strong charisma, character and sense of worm welcome to people he helped all around the globe.

I believe Jordi shows good faith and neutrality in dealing with transition toward IPv6. Unlike some key players in IPv6, Jordi has not been someone who is biased for IPv6 and against IPv4. Jordi has shown a sense of practical approach, which respects the two protocols at hand (both IPv4 and IPv6), and willingness to find a good transition mechanism and compromise to ensure the success of the Internet as whole on issues concerning IP addresses.

The ICANN board of directors will be facing very important and challenging key issues in the next few years, and for sure one of the key issues concerning to the integrity of the Internet as whole will be related to the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses and transition to IPv6. This is one of the topics, not the only one, where Jordi's balance of knowledge, expertise, charisma and management skills surrounding the topic can become a very important asset for the Board.

Thank you for your time.

Title: Statement of Support for Jordi Palet Martinez

Hello,

A quick note in support of Jordi's candidature. My area in BT has work for a number of years now with Jordi to raise the awareness of the capabilities and strengths of IPv6 migration. This has been through collaborative projects, that both Consulintel and BT have been involved in, and via various IPv6 task forces. In all our dealings with Jordi he has displayed a passionate and relentless drive to publicly promote and maintain the IPv6 agenda not only in Europe but in other global regions as well. Aside from specific IPv6 issues I know Jordi has a deep understanding of the other technologies and challenges that are vital to the future development of the internet and has championed many of them at the IETF and other international organisations.

Nominating Board Members:

I have known Jordi for somewhere around 6 or 8 years now. I don't honestly recall now if we met at IPv6 Forum events or IETF meetings (both of which I have both been a strong supporter of for more than a decade). Jordi is active in both organizations and his work and experience bring elements of real deployment issues and concerns to both; usually along with a suggested path forward.

He is a regular attendee at the RIR and NOG meetings. He has also been supportive to the aviation industry in our efforts to obtain better mobile networking support for our aircraft and our regulatory requirement for multi-homing capability from the IETF.

He brings to the table a true understanding of the routing scalability issues (and the real limitations of BGP) that we face as we migrate to IPv6. Additionally he is open to considering new architectures and concepts as we transition from IPv4 to IPv6. He is also well aware of the legal and regulatory issues that our globally mobile service providers face around the world and how these interact with our security and privacy policies. And he has been involved in ICANN activities and constituencies for several years now.

Finally he and I share a deep concern that Internet technology be available equally to all the inhabitants of our world especially the developing regions.

I strongly support his nomination and believe he would be an outstanding choice as a board member!

Take care

He is also actively working in several standardization organisms like IETF and RIRs (RIPE, LACNIC, AFRINIC, etc.) so he has a good insight about how the things work in these forums and what is the real necessities and expectations of providers and users in general.

Finally, I can say that he is an enthusiastic networking worker being able to work a lot of hours without a break until the work is finished, so for sure he will be able to successfully address any task he is responsible for.

It's difficult to find a person that simultaneously combines so much passion and such a deep technical knowledge on his work, but I really think Jordi is a perfect example of that, specially in his work educating the industry on the advantages of IPv6 technology.

He has done an excellent job for the IPv6 industry in his many roles as educator, technical evangelist, policy contributor and project coordinator.

Dear Sir,

I am the Director of REDI Madrid, the Regional Research Network in the region of Madrid, serving the research and academic community in the area, with a number of users of 400,000.

I sending this e-mail in support for the election of Jordi Palet, because I think he has a most suitable profile, as I will detail below.

He is the only candidate, and most probably one of the very few people in the world, which is globally involved for many years of volunteer effort in all the related/involved communities, including a very active participation in:

1) RIR meetings and policy making process in the RIR of *all* the regions (including having attended all the meetings for several years), so he has a very open and true global view of what are the situations and needs in all the regions, not just one.

2) IETF process and contributions not only related to IPv6 and IPv4-to-IPv6 transition and coexistence topics, but also other key fields such as security, privacy, mobility, multihoming, routing scalability, among others, having also participated in all the meetings in the last 7 years.

3) Training and education of people all around the world, with emphasis in developing regions and Network Operating Groups (NOGs).

4) He has been involved for years also in ICANN activities, having attended most of the meetings for a couple of years, which an active participation in several constituencies, including the ASO AC, GAC and ISPCP.

5) Deeply involved in medium and long term research, development and innovation activities about Internet and related fields, including not only technical aspects, but also legal ones, and awareness and dissemination activities for the results, while still keeping in touch with the reality, the market and the customers, accomplishing field expertise from the R&D activities.

6) The fact that he has been actively promoting IPv6, in spite of it being a technological failure, does not imply a downside, as most IETF people have, and some still are, trying to push IPv6 into the market against the will of the users and customers.

Finally, I think that he has the right balance of knowledge, expertise, willingness, leadership, management, financial and communication skills. Among others, he is very well recognized by people around all the world as an active member of the community and that set of resources will allow him to hear what are the needs and opinions from a global perspective. Dear Sir(s),

I want to express my fully support for nomination of Jordi Palet for the ICANN board.

I met him in 2002 in an IPv6 Summit, he was a very approachable speaker, and from this time until now, he have been a close colaborator and advisor in issues about IPv6 and Internet related themes. His intense participation in the policy making in international forums (like LACNIC here in Latin America), his multicultural empathy, his voluntary efforts supporting the IPv6 deployment and mostly his technical knowledge make him a very good candidate for the board.

Dear All,

In this opportunity I would like to suggest the name of Jordi Pallet Martinez for ICANN's Board of Directors. I met Jordi in one of LACNIC's meetings a couple of years ago. Since then, Jordi has been very helpfull taking care of all IPv6 issues around Latin America. It does not matter where in the world is Jordi Pallet, he will provide the correct response in time. He's open mind and he's got vision of future. Besides IPv6 world, he knows how to deal with nontechnological issues both in the private and public sector. He is a natural leader and he's got enough strength due to all the process he has been handling as an entrepeneur.

Due to all the reasons that have been described above I encourage you to vote him.

I endorse and support Jordi's candidacy for the ICANN board. As policy Chair of the Public Forum I appreciate Jordi's proposals and tutorials during our meetings. His involvement in our political processes is valuable and welcome. Jordi made a big effort in the LACNIC region to encourage IPv6 deployment.

I would also like to mention his business and market experience. He made useful recommendations to many providers (including our company) regarding strategic Internet issues like multicast and IPv6. He also provided support and contacts that were very useful to successfully complete several projects.

Dear ASO-AC members,

Jordi Palet, as a global expert, has cooperated with us in aspects related to IPv6 and multicast, facilitating the successful trial and commercial release of new services across our network.

For several years we know how hard he works and is able to achieve results in whatever he becomes involved.

Jordi also has been deeply involved in many aspects of the Internet and the related organizations such as the RIRs, IETF and ICANN, where he is always very collaborative and supportive to everyone that needs help.

Consequently, we believe he is the best candidate that we can have for the ICANN board seat and we are very glad to support him on this position.
