2007 ICANN Board of Directors Election Candidates

Election result

At their meeting on 2 May 2007, the ASO Address Council confirmed that the process to select an ICANN Board member had concluded with the following result:

  • Raimundo Beca 10 votes
  • Remco van Mook 3 votes
  • Kuo-Wei Wu 2 votes
  • No other candidates received any votes.

As a result, the ASO Secretariat sent the following message to the ICANN Secretary, John Jeffrey:

ICANN Bylaws Article VI, Section 2, Paragraph 1.b, provides for the Address Supporting Organization (ASO) to select members to the ICANN Board of Directors. Paragraph 3.b.3 of the ASO Memorandum of Understanding between ICANN and the Number Resources Organization, dated 21 October 2004, further defines that the selection will be conducted by the Address Council (ASO AC). ICANN Bylaws Article VI, Section 8, Paragraph 4 states the Supporting Organization shall give the Secretary of ICANN written notice of its selection.

At their meeting on 2 May 2007, the ASO AC selected Raimundo Beca to serve a further three year term on the ICANN Board of Directors. Mr Beca's current term expires at the ICANN meeting in June 2007.

About the selection process

Following a nomination period the ASO Address Council considered this list of candidates for the ASO seat on the ICANN Board of Directors. See the Structure of the ICANN Board of Directors for more information about qualification, representation, conflict of interest, duties and terms.

The candidates listed above agreed to serve in an ASO seat on the ICANN Board of Directors if selected by the ASO Address Council. In May 2007, the ASO AC made its final selection to appoint one of these individuals to fill the ASO Board seat. To aid them in making their final selection, the ASO AC members requested public comments and statements of support for the candidates. The public comment period closed at 18:00 UTC on 20 April 2007.
